Grand Cru
Chambertin
2021
There’s no doubt that Chambertin is considered one of Burgundy's top five Grands Crus. Its central position on a gently sloping, slightly cool and windy hillside gives it an exceptional texture. At the heart of this terroir lies a deep soil, delicately coated with a mantle of limestone scree and silt, patiently deposited over millennia and interwoven by the meticulous hand of man and his centuries-old cultivation work. Chambertin, slightly less steep than Clos de Bèze, benefits from a cooler breeze, provided by the nearby Combe Grisard, which brings winds from the hills. Ideally facing east, this terroir enjoys the best exposure to the sun, especially the morning sun. Nestled mid-slope, this terroir has a remarkable capacity to absorb water, making Chambertin one of Burgundy's finest terroirs. The wine's crimson color, aromatic bouquet and notes of red fruit denote an exceptional fullness of flavor.

If the 2021 wine year ended with a sunny summer, its beginnings were marked by two devastating waves of frost, which had a profound impact on the vines and endangered the coming harvest. That year, Burgundy enjoyed a mild winter. In spring, after heavy frosts in early April, the return of fine weather finally arrived, providing an ideal climate for flowering. A few weeks later, the start of summer is marked by heavy rain and pervasive humidity. August saw the return of dry, sunny weather for three weeks in a row, favoring optimal ripening of the fruit. At the end of September, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, triggering the start of the harvest on September 23. Production from this capricious vintage is exclusive. Evanescent, full of finesse and elegance, the wines reveal exceptional freshness and volume on the palate.
Notes de dégustation :
Imperial purple colour. There is a majesty to this with quite a high line of acidity running through. The tension is immaculate, and so too the fruit quality. Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

The 2020 vintage benefited from a very early harvest which began at the end of August. This exceptional vintage, produced in very small quantities due to very hot summer weather, revives the glorious past of the great Burgundies. After a wet, mild winter, the summer of 2020 was dry and hot. During this period, the vines suffered from a lack of water from flowering onwards, leading to a drop in yields. This early, sunny vintage produced some very fine wines characterized by remarkable freshness and tension, with a rare elegance of silky, refined tannins. This grandiose vintage deserves all the care of long ageing in the cellar to reveal its full potential. The ardor of this vintage and its excellent balance will also enable the wines to be enjoyed in their youth, with notes of crisp fruit complemented by floral evanescence.
Notes de dégustation :
Notes of leather and bark, mentholated freshness and liquorice, and the noble austerity of a sinuous, chiselled body in this wine of rare fullness of flavour, with interminable persistence. La Revue du Vin de France

Spring 2019 is marked by highly variable weather, with periods of fine weather and episodes of low temperatures. At flowering, the cool weather caused run-off and a drop in yields. After a scorching month of June followed by a hot, dry summer, the grapes ripened well and were in exceptional condition, enabling the harvest to begin under fine weather conditions on September 17. This vintage, produced in small quantities, produced wines of good concentration. With good tension and minerality, the wines produced from this vintage are rich, with good digestibility, freshness, length and persistence. The tannins are ripe and well-coated, expressing excellent balance.
Notes de dégustation :

Winter and early spring 2018 were very rainy. The vines built up their water reserves to cope with the hot, sunny second half of spring. The vintage was also characterized by a particularly hot summer and dry weather. The winter's water reserves enabled the grapes to ripen well, resist the heat and develop exceptional health. The bunches were healthy and perfect for harvesting, which began on September 3. This concentrated, complex vintage has achieved excellent ripeness while retaining its freshness. The wines are distinguished by their finesse and remarkable freshness, and the palate is structured, allowing a myriad of aromas to come through - a virtuoso. This vintage is unquestionably built for laying down to reveal its full potential.
Notes de dégustation :

Notes de dégustation :
Aromatically very cool and pure and there is plenty of nuance on the liqueur-like aromas of plum, dark cherry, forest-floor and a suggestion of humus. The tight, focused and strikingly intense big-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate density along with a superbly long finsh. Allen Meadows, Burghound
