Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
2021
Chambertin Clos de Bèze is considered one of Burgundy's most prestigious and finest grands crus. Its median position on a gently sloping, slightly cool and windy hillside gives it an inimitable textural grain. At the heart of this land, a deep substratum is finely draped with limestone scree and silt, deposited over millennia and patiently blended by man's meticulous, centuries-old cultivation. Herein lies the subtle difference between Clos de Bèze and Chambertin, a difference dictated by the distinct composition of the Bajocian limestone and the marl beds. A dance of mineral elements that evokes a rare geological heritage. Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, perched at an altitude of 270-280 meters, is slightly steeper than neighboring Chambertin. These two neighboring terroirs, bathed in light, are positioned mid-slope, swept by northerly winds and protected from rain-bearing westerly winds. Extreme finesse and aromatic amplitude combined with a very floral nose characterize the wines from this plot.

If the 2021 wine year ended with a sunny summer, its beginnings were marked by two devastating waves of frost, which had a profound impact on the vines and endangered the coming harvest. That year, Burgundy enjoyed a mild winter. In spring, after heavy frosts in early April, the return of fine weather finally arrived, providing an ideal climate for flowering. A few weeks later, the start of summer is marked by heavy rain and pervasive humidity. August saw the return of dry, sunny weather for three weeks in a row, favoring optimal ripening of the fruit. At the end of September, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, triggering the start of the harvest on September 23. Production from this capricious vintage is exclusive. Evanescent, full of finesse and elegance, the wines reveal exceptional freshness and volume on the palate.
Notes de dégustation :
A very floral nose, ripe but cool aromas of black raspberry, plum and exotic tea. A highly beguiling texture to the velvety broad-shouldered flavors. Strikingly long, balanced and youthfully austere finish. Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2020 vintage benefited from a very early harvest which began at the end of August. This exceptional vintage, produced in very small quantities due to very hot summer weather, revives the glorious past of the great Burgundies. After a wet, mild winter, the summer of 2020 was dry and hot. During this period, the vines suffered from a lack of water from flowering onwards, leading to a drop in yields. This early, sunny vintage produced some very fine wines characterized by remarkable freshness and tension, with a rare elegance of silky, refined tannins. This grandiose vintage deserves all the care of long ageing in the cellar to reveal its full potential. The ardor of this vintage and its excellent balance will also enable the wines to be enjoyed in their youth, with notes of crisp fruit complemented by floral evanescence.
Notes de dégustation :
A burst of ripe, fresh flavours, an aromatic delight between rose, peony and wild strawberry in this brilliant wine of extreme finesse of texture, with a spherical profile, throbbing and sparkling, discreet in its sophistication. An inspired and spiritual soloist. La Revue du Vin de France

Spring 2019 is marked by highly variable weather, with periods of fine weather and episodes of low temperatures. At flowering, the cool weather caused run-off and a drop in yields. After a scorching month of June followed by a hot, dry summer, the grapes ripened well and were in exceptional condition, enabling the harvest to begin under fine weather conditions on September 17. This vintage, produced in small quantities, produced wines of good concentration. With good tension and minerality, the wines produced from this vintage are rich, with good digestibility, freshness, length and persistence. The tannins are ripe and well-coated, expressing excellent balance.

Winter and early spring 2018 were very rainy. The vines built up their water reserves to cope with the hot, sunny second half of spring. The vintage was also characterized by a particularly hot summer and dry weather. The winter's water reserves enabled the grapes to ripen well, resist the heat and develop exceptional health. The bunches were healthy and perfect for harvesting, which began on September 3. This concentrated, complex vintage has achieved excellent ripeness while retaining its freshness. The wines are distinguished by their finesse and remarkable freshness, and the palate is structured, allowing a myriad of aromas to come through - a virtuoso. This vintage is unquestionably built for laying down to reveal its full potential.
