Orveaux des Bussières

2021
The vines that compose the "Orveaux des Bussières" cuvée benefit from a soil of rare complexity. Assembled from the upper part of Combe d'Orveau 1er Cru, which contains more pebbles and outcrops than the lower part used exclusively to produce Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru la "Combe d'Orveau" cuvée Ultra, which brings the finesse and minerality characteristic of this cuvée. Formerly owned by the Abbey of La Bussière, this plot is rich in both marl and clay, providing the vines with deep-rooted soil from which to draw their nutrients. The very old vines composing this plot offer great aromatic complexity and exceptional textural density. The silent genius behind the great aromatic complexity that emerges from the wines made from these parcels, the soil combined with the age of the vines reveals an intoxicating dance of aromas. Witness to the generosity of the Chambolle-Musigny terroir, the wines obtained from these plots reveal a complex density of texture.

If the 2021 wine year ended with a sunny summer, its beginnings were marked by two devastating waves of frost, which had a profound impact on the vines and endangered the coming harvest. That year, Burgundy enjoyed a mild winter. In spring, after heavy frosts in early April, the return of fine weather finally arrived, providing an ideal climate for flowering. A few weeks later, the start of summer is marked by heavy rain and pervasive humidity. August saw the return of dry, sunny weather for three weeks in a row, favoring optimal ripening of the fruit. At the end of September, the grapes reached perfect ripeness, triggering the start of the harvest on September 23. Production from this capricious vintage is exclusive. Evanescent, full of finesse and elegance, the wines reveal exceptional freshness and volume on the palate.
Notes de dégustation :
A cool, pure and airy nose features the essence of red cherry and a panoply of pretty floral wisps. I was wowed by the gorgeous texture of the lacy and vibrant middle-weight flavors that exude an almost aggressive minerality on the strikingly long and youthfully austère finale that is shaped by fine-grained tannins. This is a terrific Chambolle villages and warmly reccommended. Allen Meadows, Burghound

The 2020 vintage benefited from a very early harvest which began at the end of August. This exceptional vintage, produced in very small quantities due to very hot summer weather, revives the glorious past of the great Burgundies. After a wet, mild winter, the summer of 2020 was dry and hot. During this period, the vines suffered from a lack of water from flowering onwards, leading to a drop in yields. This early, sunny vintage produced some very fine wines characterized by remarkable freshness and tension, with a rare elegance of silky, refined tannins. This grandiose vintage deserves all the care of long ageing in the cellar to reveal its full potential. The ardor of this vintage and its excellent balance will also enable the wines to be enjoyed in their youth, with notes of crisp fruit complemented by floral evanescence.
Notes de dégustation :
Floral and powdery, the ravishing Chambolle Orveaux des Bussières is a goldsmith's wine, whose chiselled, pure flavours are accompanied by admirable freshness and silky length: this is a wine that is already irresistible. Guide Vert, La Revue du Vin de France

Spring 2019 is marked by highly variable weather, with periods of fine weather and episodes of low temperatures. At flowering, the cool weather caused run-off and a drop in yields. After a scorching month of June followed by a hot, dry summer, the grapes ripened well and were in exceptional condition, enabling the harvest to begin under fine weather conditions on September 17. This vintage, produced in small quantities, produced wines of good concentration. With good tension and minerality, the wines produced from this vintage are rich, with good digestibility, freshness, length and persistence. The tannins are ripe and well-coated, expressing excellent balance.
Notes de dégustation :
All the soul of Burgundy in this magnificent Chambolle-Musigny, full, velvety and racy. Les Echos, Spécial Vins

Winter and early spring 2018 were very rainy. The vines built up their water reserves to cope with the hot, sunny second half of spring. The vintage was also characterized by a particularly hot summer and dry weather. The winter's water reserves enabled the grapes to ripen well, resist the heat and develop exceptional health. The bunches were healthy and perfect for harvesting, which began on September 3. This concentrated, complex vintage has achieved excellent ripeness while retaining its freshness. The wines are distinguished by their finesse and remarkable freshness, and the palate is structured, allowing a myriad of aromas to come through - a virtuoso. This vintage is unquestionably built for laying down to reveal its full potential.
Notes de dégustation :
The texture is suave, with a great patina, and the wine is very fresh. The subtlety of the tannin is remarkable. Chiselled and very elegant, it is carried along by a thirst-quenching, fresh breath. A village model. La Revue du Vin de France

The 2017 wine year was marked by its superlative generosity. After a dry, cold winter, spring proved mild and rain-free. The vines enjoyed pleasant weather conditions, with above-normal temperatures. A hot, dry summer produced fruit of ideal health. Yields were very generous and grapes reached optimum ripeness, enabling the harvest to begin on September 7. The wines from the 2017 vintage are elegant and fine, with good tension, silky tannins and great aromatic complexity.
Notes de dégustation :
The restrained nose is comprised by essence of red cherry liqueur that is discreetly laced by notes of spice, violet and rose petal. Highly energetic flavors where the lingering finish is shaped by fine-grained tanins on the bitter cherry pit-inflected and tightly wound finish. Allen Meadows, Burghound
